Preservation Biocides Prevents Further issues

Microorganisms have been identified in oil and gas systems for almost 100 years [1], and today, we know that they can and typically do cause problems in every facet of the oil and gas industry that leads to extremely costly microbial related problems.  For a 100 years, the oil and gas industry has not changed how the industry applies biocides.  Interestingly, through the review of numerous literature articles, the percentage of microbial problems in the oil and gas industry is continuing to increase, yet very little to no changes to biocides and their application is being implemented throughout the industry.

Focusing on preserving the asset is a shift from conventional methods to a proactive method.  Although there is no one biocide that can work in all environments and most if not all limitations are not published by manufacturers, the use of a preservative biocide, Dazomet, can provide a much broader microbial control impact through a system.  Dazomet chemistry has shown an extraordinary ability to:

  • Control growth and activity of Acid Producing Bacteria (APB), Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB), and bacteria related to biofilm formation.
  • Control Bioflm development
  • Demonstrated reduction of Microbial Influenced Corrosion (MIC).
  • Provide long-term asset integrity protection against microbial activity.

Dazomet chemistry, although is not a fast acting chemistry, it can outperform most standard industry biocides such as THPS, DBNPA, Glutaraldehyde due impart to:

  • Long half-life in anaerobic environments of > 150 days.
  • Compatible with catalyzed and uncatalyzed bisulfite O2 scavengers.
  • High temperature tolerance unto 110 Celcius.
  • Can be used in a dual biocide system
  • Synergistic with Polyacrylamide friction reducers (U.S. Patent No. 7,906,463)
  • Can be applied as a batch or pulse treatment or as a solid.
  • Can be used in Tanks, Pipelines, Downhole treatments.
